Texas Psychologists & Licensed Psychological Associates (Independent Practice)

A Licensed Psychologist has the highest level of education and training in the field of psychology. Psychologists hold a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) and complete extensive supervised clinical training, including practicum experience, a full-time predoctoral internship, and postdoctoral supervised hours required for independent licensure in Texas. Psychologists are trained in psychotherapy, psychological assessment and diagnosis, and research, including the completion of a doctoral dissertation.

At WellMind, licensed psychologists provide psychotherapy, conduct psychological evaluations, and offer clinical supervision for interns and trainees as part of our commitment to ethical, high-quality care.

A Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA) with Independent Practice is a master’s-level clinician who has completed advanced supervised clinical training and has been approved by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council to practice independently within a defined scope. LPAs with Independent Practice are trained to provide psychotherapy and psychological services appropriate to their licensure and experience, and they practice autonomously while adhering to state regulations and professional standards.

At WellMind, psychologists and LPAs with Independent Practice work collaboratively to ensure clients receive care that is clinically sound, ethically delivered, and matched to each provider’s level of training and licensure.
