Myra Hernandez has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas for 21 years. She is bilingual (English/Spanish), holds a Master of Science degree in Community Counseling from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies – Psychology and Special Education from Texas Woman’s University. Presently, she is pursuing her doctorate degree in I/O Psychology at Liberty University, with an interest in the mental health and wellness of the individual within organizations and how the mind-body connection relates to overall health and wellbeing. Additionally, she is working toward certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
 
Myra has experience working in academic, clinical, hospital, private practice, and military settings. She started her career as a special education teacher and over the years transitioned into counseling services working with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
 
At heart, Myra believes in service to others, which has kept her connected to both academia and counseling throughout the years. She will utilize her training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems, Mindfulness, and Trauma as frameworks for the personal work in the counseling sessions. Her counseling approach is compassionate, holistic, and psychoeducational. She believes in meeting her clients where they are, using various modalities that best fit the client, while also teaching skills that will help them build resiliency to thrive.
