Kathy Giovas, LCSW-S
Kathy Giovas is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Supervisor (LCSW-S) at WellMind and is bilingual in English and Spanish. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at El Paso and brings over 20 years of experience providing trauma-informed psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families.
Kathy is fully trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and is a faculty member of the WellMind Training Academy’s EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Basic Training program. She also holds certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and EMDR-Sandtray Therapy, and has engaged in advanced training and mentoring with Ana Gomez. In addition, Kathy is trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) with Alexander Technique–informed somatic interweaves, supporting work with shock, threat, and early trauma patterns.
Her clinical background includes five years as a medical social worker serving diverse populations, including geriatric patients with chronic illness, children and adolescents, and adults. Kathy currently works as a licensed therapist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Social Work Department at UTEP, contributing to the training and development of future clinicians.
Kathy has a particular interest in couples counseling and family therapy and integrates the Gottman Method of Relationship Therapy alongside other evidence-based approaches to meet the unique needs of each relationship. She is also completing advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Her therapeutic style is direct, grounded, and compassionate; balancing clinical clarity with warmth, attunement, and respect.
