Interns, Practicum Students & Doctoral Residents at WellMind
WellMind is an approved training site for practicum students, interns, and doctoral residents who are completing advanced clinical training under the direct supervision of Dr. Temperance Cervantes, a licensed psychologist. These clinicians are engaged in rigorous, structured training that extends beyond traditional graduate-level coursework and emphasizes applied clinical skill, ethical practice, and nervous system–informed care.
Trainees progress gradually into clinical work. With client consent, they may begin by observing therapy sessions, followed by providing therapy with close supervision and support as they ease into a caseload. All trainees are required to meet specific academic, practicum, and internship hour requirements set by their training programs and the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (TBHEC) as part of their pathway toward licensure.
Doctoral interns and residents complete the highest level of clinical training, which includes a formal practicum, a pre-doctoral internship, and, for some, a post-doctoral residency. These stages are designed to ensure increasing levels of competence, clinical judgment, and professional responsibility.
WellMind takes the training of emerging clinicians seriously. Our training model emphasizes ethical decision-making, thoughtful pacing, strong supervision, and clinical depth, ensuring that clients receive high-quality care while future therapists are developed with integrity, skill, and respect for the therapeutic process.
